How to Measure Your Home for Furniture

Buying a new piece of furniture can be exciting! To pave the way for a seamless delivery experience, it's important that your new sectional, sofa, or other piece of furniture not only fits perfectly in your space, but it must be able to easily fit through your door as well. In this buying guide, we'll guide you through the process of measuring your furniture and comparing it to your home's dimensions to ensure a smooth delivery process, so you can get right to enjoying your new purchase!
Furniture Purchase and Delivery Step 1: Measure Your Space
It's important to measure the spaces your furniture must enter and be moved through in your home.
Entryway - Hallway & Doors
Measure the height (A) and the width (B) of all doorways and hallways from the entryway point to the room where your new furniture will be positioned.

Measure the entryway clearance (C), which is the distance from the wall, through the doorway to the opposite wall.
You want to ensure the doors and hallways will be wide enough for your new furniture to move through. Depending on the piece of furniture, you may need to change the orientation of the furniture for it to pass through a door. You should be able to do this without damaging any of the walls of your home.

Step 2: Measure Your Furniture

To ensure a proper fit, it is important to measure the furniture's width (A), height (B), and depth (C). With these measurements, we can conclude whether a piece of furniture will easily fit through your home's doors and hallways and make it to your final destination inside your home. Furniture from HOM Furniture may include removable parts like legs, feet and bases, which should be excluded when taking measurements.
Step 3: Find the Best Pathway
Once all measurement have been taken through Step 1 and Step 2, it's time to determine the best pathway for your delivery. You can do this by comparing your furniture measurements to the dimensions of your home. When deciding the path, it is also important to factor in ceiling height, stairways, banisters, corners, low-hanging lights and any other unmovable obstacles that could get in the way. By doing this, you'll be able to check if your furniture needs to come in at an angle, or if it will fit straight through.

Step 4: Prep for Delivery
On the day of your delivery, remember to remove any obstacles that might get in the way. This includes plants, artwork, frames, rugs, furniture, or anything that could potentially disrupt the flow of the path where your furniture will be moved through to it's resting spot in your home. If you have any pets, ensure they won't get in the way of your delivery, or escape out the open doors. If you live in a building with an elevator, take into consideration the measurements of the elevator door, as well as the depth. This space must be big enough for your furniture to travel in if the staircase is not an option.
Lastly, enjoy your new furniture! As your life changes, so will your space and the use of the items in it.
