HOM Furniture was awarded the 2024 High Score Wood Furniture Scorecard.

HOM Furniture is committed to the responsible use of forest resources, including the wood used in our furniture. HOM Furniture therefore will work with our suppliers on an ongoing basis to eliminate wood from unacceptable sources and to progressively increase the amount of responsible wood – wood from certified and recycled/reclaimed sources – procured over time.
HOM Furniture recognizes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as an important tool to promote responsible forest management. We have a preference for sourcing FSC-certified wood furniture when it meets our requirements.
HOM Furniture is also firmly committed to avoiding wood from unacceptable sources, including:
• Illegally harvested or traded timber;
• Timber harvested in violation of traditional or civil rights;
• Timber harvested from areas in which high conservation values are threatened by poor forest management
• Timber harvested from areas being converted from forests to plantations or non-forest use
• Timber from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted
Through this Policy, HOM Furniture seeks to set a positive example for our peers and to do our part to protect the world’s forests.

HOM'S ANNUAL RECYCLING

OUR "SMART BUILDINGS" SAVE ENERGY
We upgraded numerous showrooms and parking lots with high efficiency LED light bulbs, LED track lighting, and integrated 75F smart sensors and controls, drastically reducing daily energy consumption on the carbon emission calculator, and are in the process of fully upgrading our remaining facilities to maximize energy efficiency at every HOM Furniture location.

ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED
Multiple HOM Furniture locations throughout the Midwest, including Plymouth, Rochester, and Sioux Falls and Oakdale, were awarded the Energy Star® Certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a continuation of 10+ years of excellence. Energy Star Certified buildings perform in the top 25% of similar buildings nationwide, representing a verified superior energy performance over a 12-month period. We are fully committed to continuing towards complete energy efficiency; our Bloomington location, which opened in June 2020, features a showroom 2.5x larger yet consumes an incredible 80% less energy compared to any other HOM Furniture building.

75F INSTALLED IN OUR BUILDINGS
75F inc. pioneered the use of smart sensors and controls with the goal of making commercial buildings more efficient. HOM Furniture implemented this technology and has successfully reduced the energy consumption in our facilities by a significant 14% portfolio-wide.
One reason HOM wanted to implement this was to cut back on our carbon footprint”, said John Pierce, Real Estate Director for HOM Furniture. “We want to be good stewards to both the local and global environments, and implementing 75F has definitely aided us in this initiative. We are happy with our operating efficiency and lower energy consumption and look forward to seeing what 75F can do in our other facilities.”
You can learn more about 75F’s incredible energy-saving technology and their partnership with HOM Furniture on their website.
POWERED BY SOLAR ENERGY
Shown below is solar panel installation by Cedar Creek Energy. In April 2022, HOM Furniture-Rogers location, received rooftop solar panels, and more panels are coming to Bloomington and Oakdale locations this year. Currently, Rogers totals 1368 modules which produce over 670,500 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually of clean, renewable energy, and reduced grid demand. This onsite generation will offset nearly 60% of the electricity required to run the facility, and equates to over 524 Tons of greenhouse gas emissions saved, or 53,484 gallons of gasoline not consumed each year. On average, the arrays will provide enough electricity over their 30-35 year lifespan to provide the equivalent power for nearly 2,000 single family homes. HOM Furniture is proud to be able to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability through the use of renewable energy via our new solar arrays.
We take extra steps to recycle all of the polystyrene foam used in packaging before delivering the furniture to the customer. We take every piece of foam from all our locations and deliver it to our main warehouse, wherein the foam is chewed and compressed into compact
prisms for easy and efficient transportation, then sold to organizations that will reuse the material, all so we can reduce hazardous effects on the environment.
After unpacking any furniture to be delivered, we take
all of the cardboard from all of our locations that may otherwise go to waste and send it to our main
warehouse. Wherein we take extra steps to ensure
that all of the material is appropriately disposed of in the most environmentally-friendly way possible by churning and compacting the material to be reused by various organizations.
EFFICIENT TRUCKS & DELIVERY ROUTING SOFTWARE

Every day, we load our trucks full of quality furniture to be delivered to our customers throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. However, the fact is that delivery trucks require fuel to run correctly, and the number of carbon emissions resulting from that fuel consumption can add up over time. To manage and reduce our delivery trucks' fuel consumption, we utilize a special DispatchTrack routing software that provides our drivers with the optimal routing to and between each customer while allowing customers to track their orders from purchase to arrival. This software significantly diminishes the output of carbon emissions while drastically curtailing our trucks' wear by reducing the average daily mileage up to 10% through optimized routing, resulting in our vehicles running cleaner for longer.
HOM Furniture is proud to announce we will soon be powered by solar energy provided by Cedar Creek Energy. Starting in early 2022, the HOM Bloomington, Oakdale, and Rogers stores will be receiving roof top solar installations. Totaling 3,735 modules, the systems will provide over 1.8 Million kWh of clean renewable energy and reduce grid demand. This onsite generation will offset nearly 60% of the electricity required to run these facilities. This onsite generation equates to over 1,400 Tons of greenhouse gas emissions saved or 143,500 gallons of gasoline not consumed each year. The arrays will provide on average enough electricity over their 30-35 year life to provide the equivalent power for 8,120 single family homes. HOM Furniture is proud to be able to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability through the use of renewable energy via our new solar arrays.
