Curating Comfort at Home

Furniture design focuses on comfort as people spend more time at home.

Time spent at home should be restful and recharging. It’s your oasis from the outside world, and as more and more people spend more of their lives at home, it’s important to make sure it stays that way. It may be time for you to put some energy into making your home as comfortable as possible for you and your family. We have a few ways to do that!

Throw a Curveball

Sharp corners and straight lines may be beautiful, but they don’t communicate coziness. Often, they come across as cold and constructed. That’s why we are seeing a resurgence of interest in curved and rounded furniture, especially when it comes to seating. Round sofas or round sofa chairs are becoming increasingly common in new designs, as their natural lines produce a soft and cozy feeling. There even are round sofa sectionals for those who like bigger, more plush seating that can fit the whole family.

Curved chairs can be a great addition to any room to add a soft and cozy touch. Many also come with swivels so that you can use that rounded edge to its full potential.

Sofas with a slight curve are soft and inviting for conversation or rest.
Soft fabrics like velvet are comfortable to the touch and pleasant on the eyes.

Uphold the Upholstery

An easy and comfortable addition to any room is the use of upholstery. Upholstered pieces like benches, chairs, headboards, and more can be added to just about any room to make the vibe even more cozy. Upholstery also allows you to add even more of your personality to a space, whether that be with a pop of color or a whimsical print.

Popular fabrics like fur and velvet make luxurious upholstery choices, especially when choosing an accent piece. They also happen to be very “in” right now, as current trends lean towards the plush. A fur ottoman or a velvet chair may be just what your room needs to create a comfortable space that you want to sink into and never leave.

Plush Pillows and Beautiful Blankets

Never underestimate the power of a good throw blanket or throw pillow! These pieces can be rotated out seasonally and placed just about everywhere. Deck out your sofa or bed in soft blankets and plush pillows to make every surface of your house even more snuggly than before. Like upholstery, this is a great opportunity for you to incorporate some personal style with the fabric, pattern, and color choices. And also similar to upholstery, furs and velvets make great fabrics for pillows and blankets, especially if you’re interested in bringing those into your home for just a season or in small batches.

Some new throw pillows and blankets, like this plaid blue sherpa throw, make major cozy additions to your space.
Power recliners can help you find comfort and bring plush style into your home.

Avoid Cold Feet

Don’t forget about your feet! Cold floors can put a damper on relaxing in your home. A well-placed area rug with a high pile, meaning with longer and looser fibers, can instantly warm up your home. A thick rug is a lush addition to any room, creating a comfortable space even on your floor.

You’ve Got the Power

Modern problems require modern solutions, right? One of our favorite modern comfort solutions is power recliners. No longer the recliners of the yesteryears, these pieces can recline at the push of a button to make creating a comfortable living space a breeze. Power recliners can be found in both chairs and sofas, which means that they can be incorporated in most spaces to fit most needs. These are especially handy for those with disabilities or mobility issues, or for those looking for the ultimate cozy seat to watch their favorite movie.

Light Up Your Life

One overlooked aspect of creating a comfortable home has nothing to do with where you sit, and has everything to do with how it looks. Lighting can be a major contributing factor in creating a cozy atmosphere. Overhead lighting tends to be harsh on the eyes, and can contribute to eye strain. Instead, pick secondary lighting like table and floor lamps, especially as the evening winds down. Trust us, your eyes will thank you!
