Do you love modern interior design style? Perhaps you like the simple shapes and sleek lines of modern style, but you also want to create a lively space that is warm and inviting. Do you have a green thumb, or at least love incorporating a bit of Mother Nature’s best design elements into your home’s interior?
If contemporary style and lots of greenery are both in your design realm, then Modern Botanical style may be just the look you desire! The Modern Botanical style is a balanced pairing of modern design elements, mixed with plenty of greenery—as well as other nature-inspired elements such as botanical prints. With a mostly neutral color palette and an emphasis on organic materials, this look is all about creating a Zen vibe to incite a calm and relaxing aesthetic in your home.

It might be obvious, but the star color of the Modern Botanical trend board should be an earthy green. In this case, we’ve selected Inverness SW6433. Two neutrals, Pure White SW7005 and Agreeable Gray SW7029, add some variety while letting the green pieces do most of the talking in this space.
The focal point of this Modern Botanical living room design is a stunning green velvet sofa. It features sophisticated mid-century modern lines. Metal tapered feet add to the modern aspect of the design, and the long bench seat cushion has a biscuit tufted design that also accentuates the modern style of the sofa. A modern swivel chair adds a fun element in the room. Featuring a rounded design that extends from the frame to the seat and a sphere pillow, the organic shapes blend well with the Modern Botanical theme.
An area rug helps finish off the seating area. Featuring elegant contrasting hues combined in a highly distressed grid pattern, the area rug creates a modern dream that’s a delight to view—and to sink your feet into. A round coffee table placed on top of the area rug offers a minimalist look, while the round shape complements the organic lines found throughout the room.
In our Modern Botanical living room, greenery is brought in both through plants themselves, as well as prints. For the former, quality faux potted plants, such as a fig tree in a neutral clay pot, make a big impression without the mess and stress of keeping plants alive. The botanical prints are simple black and white designs that suit the modern aesthetic and, of course, the botanical aspect as well. Finally, stoneware vases bring in a nice design component in themselves and also allow you to add some botanical stems or play around with texture with an arrangement of grasses.
A variety of natural materials work well with what is, after all, a nature-based design. Jute baskets with a very organic look fit well with the furniture and décor, and offer a versatile storage piece for the space.
Just like plants need sunshine to thrive, our botanical-based design needs plenty of light to reach its full potential. A floor lamp adds brightness to our space, and it exudes beauty from the natural ash wood grain of the legs. The simple design suits the minimal aspect of our modern look.
It’s easy to create a Modern Botanical look in your own living space. Start by selecting a sofa with clean and modern lines. However, the star of the show is the greenery! Whether botanical artwork, a bold green accent wall, furniture pieces, or real plants, the greenery should take center stage in your space. Finish this fresh look with organic textures and fabrics that are brought in through your throw pillows and accent pieces.
