Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance’s (MOCA) Annual Event Updated to Drive-In Program in 2020

Coon Rapids, Minn.—HOM Furniture employees, family members and friends participated in Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance’s (MOCA) HOM Teal Drive for Ovarian Cancer. The event raised more than $130,000 for ovarian cancer research, education, as well as support for women and families impacted by this disease.

Nearly 450 participants attended the 2020 HOM Teal Drive, which occurred at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, on Saturday, September 12. The event was held in place of MOCA’s annual HOM Teal Strides walk/run event, as a safer alternative due to the coronavirus pandemic. HOM Furniture served as the title sponsor for the eighth consecutive year.

The HOM Teal Drive consisted of a drive-in program and teal car parade. Through the program, participants learned how MOCA’s research funding plays an important role in promising new developments for the treatment of ovarian cancer. Doctors and ovarian cancer survivors also spoke at the HOM Teal Drive to educate and inspire other women and families facing this disease.

The HOM Teal Drive attendees participated in a teal car parade through part of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Drivers decorated their cars with HOM Teal Drive car flags, and many added additional teal decorations. Entertainment along the parade route included jugglers, musicians, costumed characters and MOCA supporters. HOM Furniture additionally provided dozens of signs along the parade route to raise awareness and share life-saving information about ovarian cancer, as well as MOCA’s support programs, research and impact.

“The annual Teal Strides event has been an important fundraiser in the community for twenty years, and HOM Furniture has been privileged throughout the years to help support MOCA and spread awareness about ovarian cancer,” said Rod Johansen, President and CEO. “This year’s Teal Drive allowed our employees, families and friends to continue to honor those affected by ovarian cancer, in a safe and celebratory manner. We look forward to next year’s event, hopefully with a return to the walk/run format.”

There is no early detection test and no cure for ovarian cancer. MOCA’s research funding is critical to change the course of this disease. MOCA is a top private, nonprofit funder of ovarian cancer research in the nation, having provided a total of nearly $9 million to ovarian cancer research projects. Next year, MOCA is planning to host its annual HOM Teal Strides walk/run again. The event is scheduled for September 18, 2021 at Rosland Park in Edina, Minnesota.

HOM ranks as one of the nation’s largest furniture retailers serving customers in the upper Midwestern states of Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. Find out why “There’s No Place Like HOM.” For more information visit www.homfurniture.com.
