Coon Rapids, MN (October 2022) –This year’s HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer walk and run event took place on Saturday, September 10 at Rosland Park in Edina, Minnesota. The annual event, which is hosted by the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA), marked the tenth year that HOM Furniture served as the title sponsor. More than 1,500 participants, including ovarian cancer survivors, families, friends and community members, attended the event and participated in a morning filled with inspiration and fundraising. The event raised $300,000 this year.
MOCA’s HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer included events for all levels and ages.
HOM Teal Strides is the largest ovarian cancer fundraiser in the Midwest and supporters come from all over the region to attend. Funds raised go directly to MOCA, a nationally recognized statewide nonprofit dedicated to ovarian cancer research, support programs for women and families, medical education and awareness about this disease.
“HOM Furniture was honored to serve as the title sponsor for HOM Teal Strides for the tenth year, and we enjoyed a day of fundraising and celebrating with the community with attendance for this year’s event back to pre-pandemic levels,” said Rod Johansen, President and CEO. “Each year, an annual survivor photo is taken to recognize the brave woman who have fought against this disease, and it has been awesome to see the number of women in the photo grow. During the first year of being the title sponsor the photo contained about 20 women. This year it looked like closer to 75 women were in the photo. It’s a true testament that MOCA is making solid gains in their mission to find early detection and treatment options.”
There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer, making funding for research and awareness crucial in improving early detection and prevention of future tragedies. MOCA reached a milestone this year by reaching the $10 million level of funding for all of the various researchers with their work. The exciting news is there are new strides in the detection that continue to move forward along with medical advances extending the life expectancies of the women that are suffering from this awful disease.
