In 2022, rust and other warm colors are giving way to cooler palettes, with ocean blues and teals gaining popularity again. There are many benefits to using cool colors in interior design. Blues and greens tend to be calming colors, representing tranquility and optimism. As such, they work well in any room of your home.
Beautiful sky blues, sea foam greens, trendy teals and bright turquoise colors also bring some of the beauty of the great outdoors into your indoors. These shades, associated with some of our favorite vacation spots, can be used to give your home the ultimate “staycation” feel.
Bring some vacation vibes to your everyday living by borrowing from Mother Nature’s favorite palette: blues, greens and every hue in-between.
It’s clear that in 2022, green is the winning color. Behr, for example, has named a sea glass green they call Breezeway as their color of the year, which is ideal for creating a relaxing oasis in your everyday living space. The Sherwin Williams 2022 Color of The Year is Evergreen Fog. This organic color is simple yet sophisticated at the same time. A true chameleon color of gorgeous green meets gray, with just a hint of blue. It’s the perfect tone for a calming yet stunning statement.

One of the easiest ways to give your home staycation feels through design? Take inspiration from the sea. You can incorporate your favorite sea blues and greens in small ways, or make a big splash by painting your walls or purchasing a statement piece of furniture in your favorite shade. When it comes to bedrooms, having the “blues” is a good thing, and green shades work just as well. A bedroom is a place where we can come at the end of the day, and escape the stresses in favor of rest and dreams. A staycation-inspired blue-green color palette is a way to set your bedroom up to foster R&R, and give you 5-star hotel quality rest in your own home, night after night!
A blue-green color palette works especially well with natural-looking wood furniture. Consider a beautiful rustic or distressed wood bed frame or bedroom furniture set, and complement it with blue bedding and wall art. Don’t forget to finish it all off with a blue area rug that will add beckoning texture to your room as well as your favorite shade.
While blues and greens may be the star player in your staycation-themed space, that doesn’t mean you’re limited to cool tones. Again, Mother Nature serves as inspiration. If you want a more neutral shade for your walls and/or large furnishings, sand-colored tones will look aspirational with a few blue pieces spread throughout your room. You can also add a pop of color with blue and green’s complementary shades. Think vacation sunsets as you select pops of orange décor, adding a few pillows or other pieces to your mostly blue space.
There’s no need to despair if you can’t make a vacation happen this season. Instead, take some inspiration from these design tips to make your everyday feel more like a relaxing staycation.
