Upholstery Care

    Important Furniture Facts to Know

    • All fabrics will fade in direct and indirect sunlight. Cotton and cotton blend fabrics tend to fade more quickly than man-made fabrics. This is natural and adds to the soft look and feel of the cotton fabric.
    • Periodic cushion rotation (when applicable) ensures even wear and compression of cushions. Please note: 15% to 20% loss of resiliency in foam cores is considered normal. Sitting in the same location on a sofa without periodic rotation of the cushion will cause the appearance of cushions to be different.
    • Crushed velvets, polysuedes, and novasuedes will all have color variation within, caused by the angle that light hits these fibers. Shading and crushing is a normal sign of use and are not a factory defect.
    • Fabric pilling is a normal sign of use and is not a defect in the fabric. Pilling is caused by extra fibers coming to the surface on fabrics. As with carpets and sweaters, the pilling will persist until the excess fiber is gone, and then it will cease. The best treatment while this is happening is simply to “shave” the fabric cover with a battery operated furniture or sweater shaver (found at Walmart or other department stores) to remove the “pills” and restore the look of the cover surface. This may need to be done repeatedly, but the pilling on the surface will begin to diminish and ultimately stop.
    • Frequent vacuuming will keep dust and dirt particles from becoming embedded in the fabric. We suggest calling a professional cleaner to have an upholstered piece cleaned.
    • Fabric is not warranted by the factory mills against wearing. Therefore, we don’t warrant the wearing, color fastness (fade-ability) or durability of any fabric.

    Other Important Warranty Information

    • Fabrics will wear out. Workmanship on seams and attached buttons is warranted for a period of ONE year from the date of delivery or pickup. This does not include defects due to moving, misuse, abuse or animals. Furniture that has been placed in direct sunlight or has been treated with a chemical process and fabrics that have shrunk are not covered in this warranty.
    • Frame and spring construction is warranted for a period of three years from the date of delivery or pickup against defects in materials or workmanship such as a defective frame parts, defective dowel joints, and any manufacturing defect resulting in defective metal springs. Seasonal cracks in frames, knot and wormholes, and differences in finish colors are all inherent characteristics of wood used in upholstered furniture and are not considered defects.
    • Metal frames, legs, casters, reclining mechanisms and sleep sofa mechanisms are warranted for a period of three years from the date of delivery or pickup against defects such as loose linkage, rivets, and/or loose welds that inhibit the normal use of the item. Please realize that a certain degree of “free play” is normal in most mechanism and is not considered a defect.
    • Sleep sofas are not designed or built for daily use as a bed. Usage beyond once or twice a week will cause your sleep sofa to wear out prematurely. Sleep sofa mattresses are warranted for a period of three years from the date of pickup or delivery against defects such as: total loss of foam resiliency and seam slippage of mattress covers. Mattresses will become creased at fold lines and, as with cushion cores, these mattresses will compress and soften with use. These characteristics are not considered defects.

    Leather Warranty

    Important Furniture Facts to Know

    • All leathers will fade in direct sunlight. Leather can fade from indirect sunlight. Fading is a normal wear characteristic and is not a defect. More costly natural leathers will tend to fade more than less costly or starting graded leather that has more surface dye used in the finishing process. Leather / Vinyl matches will fade unevenly.
    • Periodic cushion rotation (when applicable) ensures even wear and compression of cushions. Please note: 15% to 20% loss of resiliency in foam cores is considered normal. Sitting in the same spot on a sofa will be noticeable unless cushions are rotated.
    • Nubuck leather will all have color variation within, caused by the angle that light hits these fibers. Natural leather will also have color variations even in the same hide. (Cows bellies don’t get much sun) Since a single hide cannot be used for an entire leather chair or sofa, color variation in leather panels is natural and is considered a characteristic of handcrafted beauty. Nubuck and “waxed pull-up” abrasions and contact with fluids.
    • Hide marks on leather are normal. Scars, brands, stretch marks, barbed wire marks, etc. all fall under the category of hide marks and are noticeable on all genuine leather products and are not considered defects. The craftsmen of leather products consider these natural marks a true characteristic of the leather.
    • As leather stretches to fit you body, it will develop a patina and comfort lines where you regularly sit.
    • To keep your furniture looking its best and achieving its most supple feel, we recommend the HOM Guard Protection Program on ALL our leather. It warrants you against rips, tears, burns, cracking, peeling, ballpoint pen marks, and staining from anything people eat or drink, and any human or pet bodily fluids. Keep the pores of your leather piece free of dust particles by cleaning regularly with a soft brush from your vacuum.
    • Leather is not warranted by the tannery against wearing. Therefore, we do not warrant the wearing, color fastness (fade-ability) or durability of any fabric or leather.
    • Please realize that a certain degree of “free play” is normal in most mechanisms and is not considered a defect. This is most recognizable with glider and swivel mechanisms.
    • All electrical components in furniture including: switches, dimmers, lights, massage units, telephones, etc. are warranted for a period of 90 days.
