Holiday Ready Guest Rooms

Make your overnight guests feel merry and comfortable with festive guest bedroom ideas.

Is it your turn to host family and friends for Thanksgiving dinner this year? Are your loved ones gathering at your house for Christmas or other holidays? Maybe you love entertaining, and you are hosting multiple gatherings this season.

Whether your old college roommates are staying the night after Friendsgiving or your mother-in-law is spending a week around the holidays, it’s important to make your guests feel at home. If there stay includes an overnight or two, that means updating your guest room for the season. Give your overnight guests feelings of comfort and joy with these simple seasonal updates for your guest bedroom.

Start with Winter Bedding

While Christmas décor and seasonal nick-nacks are nice, the most important thing is comfort. First, consider where your guests are going to sleep. If you already have a guest bedroom set up with a queen bed and comfortable mattress, you have a good start. If not, now may be the time to invest in a guest bed. Don’t have room? There are plenty of space-saving solutions, such as a sofa sleeper, futon or a klik-klak.

If it’s been awhile since you’ve hosted, you may also need to update your pillows. Choose medium firm pillows to accommodate all types of sleepers.

Next up, consider whether the bedding is going to be warm enough for the cold winter nights. You can switch out the current bedding with warmer sheets and a thick comforter, or simply add a throw blanket for extra insulation. A faux fur throw blanket is trendy for the season and so cozy that your guests will soon by sound asleep with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. You can complete the look by adding a couple of matching faux fur throw pillows at the top of the bed.

Add Holiday Décor

If your guests are away from their home for the holidays, you’ll want to do all you can to make them feel festive and merry in yours. It’s easy to add a few holiday touches to your guest space. For thanksgiving, you can place a glass pumpkin and a few fall-scented candles on their nightstand or a shelf. If you are entertaining over Christmas, consider placing an artificial tabletop tree in their bedroom, complete with a few favorite ornaments. Don’t forget a stocking for your guests if they are staying overnight on Christmas Eve!

Guest Baskets

In the spirit of giving, consider gifting your guests a little something extra for their holiday stay. You can put together a basket filled with items that will make the time spent at your home as comfortable as possible. Start with a few bottles of water and a sleeve of cookies for late night snack attacks. You can also take a cue from hotels and add little toiletries that they might need, including travel sized bottles of shampoo and a seasonal scented bar of soap and lotion.

With these accommodating touches, your holiday guests will be sure to leave you five-star reviews.
