For those items that you’re just not ready to part with yet, find a way to display them on a bedside table to a bookcase where they’re actually viewable (instead of lost among that piles of things you threw into your bedroom for hiding when company was coming to visit) or locate a place for them to live away from sight. Consider a chest or a storage bench or ottoman for a way to hide away necessary, but unsightly, items. For a bougie feel, look for a storage piece with gold, copper, silver, or chrome finishings and drawer pulls featuring glass, crystal, delicate flowers, or jewels (and if they’re not the real thing, we won’t tell). Texture

Once your room is decluttered, it’s time to add texture. And we mean texture.

The bed is usually the focal point of any bedroom so modify yours to tout that expensive look, with or without the actual price tag. If your bed doesn’t have a headboard, now’s the time to get one. Look for a headboard covered in fabric to immediately add warmth to the bedroom.

Next, look at the bedding itself. You’ll want high thread count sheets and matching bedding sets. When selecting items for your upscale new space, select items in the same color family. Often luxury spaces feature various shades of white (eggshell, cream, ivory, vanilla, etc.) with splashes of gold or other metallic hues. However, it doesn’t have to be white. If you’d rather leave the whites to the hotels, find a color that appeals to you and select pieces in the same color family, including your headboard, sheets, bedding, throw pillows, rugs, even your wall color. Repetition of the same color with splashes of white, black, or metallic hues will make the luxe feel resonant throughout the room.

Look at the space around your bed and figure out a way to add an area rug, either with a big area rug that sticks out from under your bed, or even with runner rugs next to the bed.

A truly luxurious bedroom even displays texture on the walls to accentuate the feeling of being able to sink into the three dimensional coziness. Look for bedroom wall decor that compliments the room with similar color tones, or that bring those splashes of black, white, or metallic accents. If you prefer more traditional wall art displaying pictures on canvas or paper, make sure it’s framed so it continues the refined, finished look throughout your bedroom.

Lighting
