After a few years of being inundated with articles about shades of millennial pink, there’s something very interesting that’s trending. Another unique color, tied to another generation: Gen Z yellow.
Like millennial pink, it ranges in shades and tones, but one thing is always true about its use. It is a bold and meant to express creativity, or express difference. Its use brings attention, even when used softly. It also seems to represent the vitality and passion of Gen Z, the generation directly following millennials, many of whom are teenage trendmakers.
We’re starting to see it everywhere, and have been given subtle hints in popular culture. Beyonce’s stunning yellow dress from her Lemonade track “Hold Up” made waves, even being imitated in Halloween outfits. Instagram photos from the hip and innovative are beginning to feature a gentle, yellowish tone, bathing everything in the warm hue.
It’s easy to see why this color is becoming so beloved by a generation. It can be used as an accent, something fresh and original, or as an overall aesthetic in order to bring warmth into spaces, photos, and outfits.
We’re finding that we love it in the home, as a tool to bring interest and suspense to otherwise simple spaces. Accent chairs or seating in gorgeous mustards or butter yellows look lovely in spaces that may need an extra pop. Even smaller pieces like lamps or other types of home decor look great in Gen Z yellow, especially if you’re unsure about hopping onto a color trend entirely. You could try bringing the lively hues up to your walls with artwork. This way you can bring the attention of your eye upwards and avoid having to rework your current furniture setting in order to bring the trendy color into your space.
We’re excited to see where this trend leads in the upcoming year! Whether you’re ready to give up your rose-gold, millennial pink or not, and one thing is for certain: Get ready to say hello to Gen Z yellow.
