Coon Rapids, MN (October 2023) –This year’s HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer walk and run event took place on Saturday, September 11, 2023. It was the 24th year for the walk/run, hosted by Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA), and the eleventh year that HOM Furniture served as the title sponsor. An annual tradition that has grown over the years, HOM Teal Strides is the largest ovarian cancer fundraiser in the Midwest.

The 2023 event has raised close to the goal of $240,000 to help educate, inspire and make an impact for MOCA’s ovarian cancer research and support programs. Donations are being accepted through the end of September through the MOCA’s website .

“The end of summer brings an annual event that our HOM Furniture team looks forward to every year, HOM Teal Strides,” said Rod Johansen, President and CEO. “The event is a celebration of the brave women who have fought against this disease, including some beloved women from HOM’s own family, as well as the strides MOCA continues to make in awareness, early detection and treatment. It’s a battle that’s fought year round, and we are proud to help support it through this event and other fundraisers.”

More than 1,700 MOCA supporters and more than 200 volunteers from all over the region participated in this year’s event, which took place at Rosland Park in Edina, Minnesota. The participants included ovarian cancer survivors, families, friends and community members. All participants were treated to a morning filled with inspiration and fundraising.

MOCA’s HOM Teal Strides for Ovarian Cancer included events for all levels and ages.

• Participants joined in on a 2K Walk, 5K Run and a Kids Fun Run.

• Attendees celebrated with live music, entertainment and games for kids and families.

• An inspirational program featured ovarian cancer survivors, oncologists and researchers.

• Survivors gathered for an annual photograph to honor each other and all women who have been diagnosed with the disease.

During the program, HOM Furniture presented MOCA with a check for $30,000 from the company’s Shop for a Cause promotion, which ran earlier in the year, giving customers the opportunity to donate to MOCA and enjoy a shopping discount. Additionally, HOM’s team for this year’s walk/run raised more than $12,000 towards the fundraising goal.

Funds raised go directly to MOCA, a nationally recognized statewide nonprofit dedicated to ovarian cancer research, support programs for women and families, medical education and awareness about this disease. There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer, making funding for research and awareness crucial in improving early detection and prevention of future tragedies.

Next year’s HOM Teal Strides will take place on September 7th, 2024, at the same location, Rosland Park in Edina, Minnesota.
