The holidays are over and everywhere you look people are wheeling carts full of those clear plastic storage bins to get organized for the new year. But isn’t there a better way? Must we trek to the basement or attic to dig through said bins everytime we need a fresh set of sheets, or our favorite serving platter? Isn’t there a way to keep things out of the way but close at hand? Absolutely! We’ve got solutions for every room of the home to keep you organized in style.
Storage doesn’t have to be boring anymore. With modern bookcases, farmhouse inspired storage benches, chic accent tables, and posh beds with built-in storage, you can keep everything you need nearby while keeping it out of sight.
Bedrooms are the easiest place to find storage but not always so easy to find storage that looks nice. We’re all prone to throwing things under the bed or in the closet to hide them away but trying to find them again can be a nightmare. Organizing those spaces can bring a sense of calm and order to the bedroom and might even help you sleep better at night!
One of the best places to add storage is the bed. A storage bed can include a number of different options to stash away extra sheets and blankets, toys, books, seasonal clothing, and more. A popular option is a storage bed with drawers under the side/s and/or foot of the bed that allow you to tuck away items without fear of them peeping out from underneath the duvet. A bed frame with storage can also include a built-in bookshelf at the head of the bed to help organize bedtime books, lights, clocks, technology, and decor you wish to display. You may also want to consider a coordinated storage chest or bench at the foot of the bed for extra deep storage and a great place to throw all those extra items you just don’t know what to do with.
Sometimes it seems our living areas have the least amount of storage despite their high use. But a few discerning changes can make a big difference and save you steps to gather needed items. One great place to start is the spot you definitely don’t want to move from–the sofa! Place hidden storage near and around the sofa to keep you cozy and relaxed. An ottoman with storage provides a great spot to rest your feet, or even an extra seat for kids, with hidden space inside for extra blankets and pillows. A coffee table with drawers keeps small items, like remotes and charging cables, nearby even while holding a beverage and a bowl of popcorn so you don’t have to pause your binge show to find them. Similarly, a chic accent table with a drawer positioned at the end of your sofa can house small items to keep your surfaces clutter-free.
Living areas are prime locations for additional storage, as well. Place a storage bench or chest behind the sofa to stash games and puzzles, or add one to a wide hallway to hide away winter clothing when spring rolls around. Bookcases are also a great addition to nearly any room with versatility to display picture frames, plants, books, or newly gifted decor in a neat and organized manner.
Kitchen cupboards can fill up fast and sometimes it seems there’s just no place to put another holiday themed platter or dish towel. Consider adding a sideboard or buffet to the kitchen or dining room to expand your storage space. If there’s not room for any additional furniture, look for a dining table that includes storage! There are great options that include space directly under the surface or separate enclosed storage areas near the base. Even small storage additions can make a big difference after the holidays when you might find yourself with a few more items to put away.
If new storage furniture isn’t in your near future, consider other ways to organize. Storage baskets are inexpensive and come in a variety of styles to suit your style. Set a collection of three in an unused corner for a quick and easy space to hold extra blankets, pillows, or dog toys. Add structured rectangular baskets to an existing bookshelf or coffee table to provide an instant update to the furniture and a semi-secluded space for small items.
Have fun creating new storage spaces this new year and you’ll be thanking yourself all year long!
