Spring into a Fresh Home Design

Breathe new life into your home with these easy spring updates

If you’ve been hit by a major case of spring fever, now’s the time to get your home ready for the season. Along with some spring cleaning, you can refresh your home with a few simple updates that are concentrated in getting the most bang—or springtime feel—for your buck. Consider the following updates to make your home feel warm and fresh, even if it is still cold outside.

A console table is a wonderful way to save space while organizing and displaying your items.

Enter into the Season

The entryway is a great place to start your spring home updates. Not only does your entryway serve as the first impression for your home, it also bears the grunt of winter wear. From the dirt and slush that’s trekked in from outside to the piles of winter gear housed on every hook and shelf, our entryways withstand a lot in the cold months. Come spring, chances are your entryway has seen better days. Start your spring updates by giving your entryway a major refresh.

First, the practical stuff! Trade out heavy jackets, hats, and mittens in lieu of spring coats and umbrellas. It’s also a good time to make sure you have the furnishings and accessories to organize these items. If you have the space and need major organization assistance, consider a multifunctional hall tree. Featuring hooks for jackets, bins for accessories and a bench for yourself, these items can take your entryway from cluttered to clean and stylish. For smaller entryways or those in need of just a little something for better organization, consider a coat tree, storage bench and/or a console table depending on your space and the accessories and other items you wish to have handy as you leave the house.

Color Your World (or Home)

Spring is a great time to add color back into your home—whether it’s time to paint a room, add a statement piece of furniture, or just freshen up your home with some pops of color in new home accessories. Whether you go big or just add some small accents, choose a color that feels fresh but also matches your aesthetic. Green is an obvious choice to liven up your home, and it can be easily incorporated through furniture, throw pillows and light-weighted throw blankets, wall art, and even live or artificial plants.

Pastels are traditionally associated with spring, yet, they still feel current. These soft shades are trending in fashion and home décor alike. However, there is no need to stick with muted tones. Spring is also a time to make bold choices, such as choosing an accent chair in your favorite bright hue. For instance, Ultra-Violet, Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year, can also bring a revitalized feeling to your home, making a major impact with smaller items such as wall art, candles and other accessories.

Accessorize, Less?

While accessories are a great way to spruce up your home, spring is a time when less can actually be more, and accessories are no exception. Lighten up your load by packing away heavy fur throws and knit blankets, dark candles and even some of your substantial vases and sculptural items. You can create a renewed feel by replacing these items with light colored pieces. Glass accessories are also a great option in spring, as they provide a sophisticated touch as well as an open, airy look. Wicker indoor furniture and accessories also help bring the outside in, lending a spring-time feel to your living spaces. Whether you choose colored, glass, wicker, or a mixture of these pieces, it’s important not to go overboard. Keep shelves, coffee tables and other accent pieces mostly cleared to create a light, open look that is perfect for the season.

Finally, light up your home with new hanging light fixtures, as well as floor and table lamps. Choose glass fixtures and light colored shades to keep an open feel throughout your home. By brightening up your space, you can enjoy all these home design updates this spring season and beyond.
